Role of the Ustad

A teacher, guide, and community reference point

The ustad occupies a position of moral and intellectual authority. Unlike a formal classroom teacher, the ustad is also a spiritual guide and community figure.

Students are expected to respect, serve, and remain connected to their ustad. This relational dimension is one of the features that distinguishes Palli Dars from formal schooling.
